FLEX, Episode 9
Updated: 2 days ago
Hey Finisher!
In my last episode, Jump, I asked the question, “What. Are. You. Waiting. For?” I talked about letting go of the rail, stepping out of the boat, and trusting God enough to MOVE beyond what feels safe and familiar. At some point, we must stop presenting one argument after another about why we can't do it, why it's not the right time, or why we aren't ready.
I wouldn't be surprised if God had a question of His own: How much longer are you going to prosecute a case against the very thing you're asking Me to help you accomplish?
Stop building a case against your dream and start putting your faith to WORK!
And that brings me to today's episode…
THE FLEX
For the last three months, I've been putting my body to WORK. I joined a group fitness class with the goal of dropping pounds while gaining muscle. After three months, I was expecting some substantial results. I envisioned walking into a room and hearing, “Girl, LOOK AT YOU! What have you been doing?” Well… that was NOT the case! 😂But as I wrap up the last three months, I can say that I feel stronger, more committed, and more determined to continue. I may not see the physical transformation I envisioned, but the inward changes will serve as a catalyst for the transformation I'm seeking.

Faith works the same way. You may not see it working, but as you continue believing, and continue flexing, you will see change.
When I say flex, I'm talking about small movements, steps, or actions that may seem insignificant but move you toward a desired result. It's the little things we do that deserve to be celebrated, not minimized.
Every time you decide not to give up, that's a flex.
Every time you sit at your computer and peck away at that book, that's a flex.
Every time you slip into your gym clothes, that's a flex.
Every time you choose to forgive instead of allowing anger to take over, that's a flex.
And when you make one more attempt after hearing “no,” facing rejection, or experiencing disappointment. THAT'S A FLEX TOO!
There were days when I was eager, willing, and ready to show up at the gym. I was ready to increase my strength and see what I could accomplish. But then there were days when getting out of bed felt like lifting a 100-pound weight! Those were the days I had to draw on my project management expertise. I had to ask myself:
“What is the smallest meaningful action you can take right now?”
My first step wasn't glamorous. The first meaningful action was simply throwing the covers off. That's it. JUST THROW THE COVERS OFF! That seemingly insignificant move made the next step possible: rolling out of bed. Then came brushing my teeth and washing my face.
Hopefully, that's a meaningful step for all of us! 😉
Next, I got dressed. Then I got in the car. Before I knew it, I was pulling up to the building, ready for whatever my trainer had planned for me that day.
THAT'S THE FLEX!
I just had to take the first step that made the next step possible. And before long, I was there, doing the work.
Momentum builds from small flexes.
You're not always going to feel like doing the work! Some workout days were easy. Other days, I had to dig deep to get through a session.
There will be days when the excitement has worn off, the results aren't showing up as quickly as you expected, and your feelings aren't cooperating.
Keep digging. Keep showing up. Keep flexing.
Yes, there will be days when you don't want to show up, make the phone call, design the brochure, work on the website, or deal with that difficult person.
KEEP FLEXING!
There's a saying: “It doesn't get easier. You just get stronger.” It’s not that “the thing” became easier it’s that you have flexed enough times against the urge to quit that made you stronger.
Every time a door closes, you have an opportunity to flex.
Every time you choose to forgive, you have an opportunity to flex.
Every time you sit down and work on that project instead of putting it off, that's a flex! You are building momentum!
You may not see the full results today. But don't discount the work you're doing today just because the finish line is still ahead of you. You got this!
What. Are. You. Waiting. For? FLEX.
Until next time I will be praying yours and I hope you are praying mine.
See you at the finish line.
