JUMP!

Hey Finisher😀

I’m writing to you from Arlington Lake, where it’s a beautiful 88 degrees in Texas! The air is filled with the smell of BBQ, kids are playing while the adults gather, and boaters are busy loading and unloading their boats. The breeze is just right, and the gentle rippling of the water harmonizes beautifully with the chirping of the birds.

It’s a beautiful day to slow down and simply be.

My husband has been out of town due to work for the last six days, and I’ve been enjoying time to myself. In the last episode, I shared what I’ve learned after twenty-two years of marriage. One lesson was the importance of keeping a pulse on your marriage so you recognize early when it stops beating the same.

Well, here’s another thing I’ve learned: Every so often, a relationship benefits from a little time apart to reset. There are things we both do that irritate the other. But for the last week, I haven’t had to wonder whether leaving my things on his side of the bathroom sink was going to cause a rift. I just left them there because I could. LOL!

Besides, I had time to reflect.

As I sit lakeside, I ask myself, with a long pause between each word:

What. Are. You. Waiting. For?

I wasn’t in a rush to answer. I wanted to sit with the question. A question brought on by our PrayHers monthly Sisterhood Saturday meetup. The discussion still has me stirred!

Lanita, one of the many amazing women in our group, led the discussion with a clarion call to JUMP—STOP WAITING AND START MOVING!

She presented five soul-searching analogies:

  1. The Kernel and the Popcorn

  2. The Boat Adventure in the Dominican Republic

  3. The Two Velcro Strips

  4. The Courtroom Prosecutor

  5. Double Dutch Doubt

Each one had me cross-examining if I was harboring any hidden fears or untapped potential.

Have I been prosecuting a case against myself?

Have I been believing and building up reasons why I can’t do the seemingly impossible?

Am I playing Double Dutch Doubt, teetering back and forth, waiting for the perfect time to… JUMP IN? Or am I like the two unaligned Velcro strips, leaving room for other people’s negative opinions to attach themselves to my thoughts?

And what about that one-dimensional kernel, playing it safe and afraid to face the heat and pressure? When, in fact, it’s the heat and pressure that causes the kernel to POP into something multifaceted!

But the analogy that resonated with me the most was the boat story.

Lanita shared an experience from her trip to the Dominican Republic. During a boat excursion, passengers had the opportunity to climb out of the boat and explore the beauty underwater. But Lanita declined. She made it down the stairs, but she wouldn’t venture into the water.

The tour guide tried several attempts to get her off the boat. In his Dominican accent, he told her, “I will even hold you the entire time. It’s beautiful where you stand, but there is so much more I want you to see.”

Even with his encouragement, she wouldn’t let go of the rail. And now, she wonders what she missed.

For years, like Lanita holding on to the stairs of that boat, I’ve held on to what was familiar and safe.

Yes, I’ve gone far enough to get my feet wet, but I’ve been afraid to venture into the deep. I’ve allowed fear and uncertainty to attach themselves to my belief system like Velcro, building a case against the possibilities within me.

But lately, I’ve been letting go of the rails of doubt, fear, and insecurity, trusting that God is holding me every step of the way.

And that brings me back to the question:

What. Are. You. Waiting. For? What would you regret NOT doing? What would leave you wondering?

What if you moved forward, got out of the boat, and began building a strong case for what IS possible?

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” — Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

The tour guide was willing to hold Lanita the entire time. She didn’t have to figure out how to navigate the water alone. She simply had to let go of the rail and trust him.

Sometimes, we’re so busy holding on to what feels safe that we miss the possibilities. What if God is saying to you, "Let go I will hold you the entire time."

What if the very thing you’ve been waiting for is on the other side of your willingness to move? The time is now.

The atmosphere is conducive for birthing dreams. Don't wait until every fear disappears. Don't wait until you have every answer. And don't wait for the perfect conditions. DON'T WAIT. JUMP!

Until next time I will be praying yours and I hope you are praying mine.

See you at the finish line.
